Before it comes up, you must convert the format which can not be played by your player when you want to see the film with a portable player. And you need install a media converter program on your PC.

Today I want to introduce you a network communication device also called media converter, it is fiber media converter.

Fiber media converters are simple networking devices that make it possible to connect two dissimilar media types such as twisted pair with fiber optic cabling. They were introduced to the industry nearly two decades ago, and are important in interconnecting fiber optic cabling-based systems with existing copper-based, structured cabling systems. They are also used in MAN access and data transport services to enterprise customers.

Fiber media converters support many different data communication protocols including Ethernet, Fast Ethernet, Gigabit Ethernet, T1/E1/J1, DS3/E3, as well as multiple cabling types such as coax, twisted pair, multi-mode and single-mode fiber optics. Media converter types range from small standalone devices and PC card converters to high port-density chassis systems that offer many advanced features for network management. Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) enables proactive management of link status, monitoring chassis environmental statistics and sending traps to network managers in the event of a fiber break or even link loss on the copper port.

 Fiber media converters can connect different LAN media, modifying duplex and speed settings. Switching media converters can connect legacy 10Base-T network segments to more recent 100Base-TX or 100Base-FX Fast Ethernet infrastructure. For example, existing Half-Duplex hubs can be connected to 100Base-TX Fast Ethernet network segments over 100Base-FX fiber.

Multimode Fiber to Single-mode Fiber

 When expanding the reach of the LAN to span multiple locations, media converters are useful in connecting multiple LANs to form one large “campus area network” that spans over a limited geographic area. As premises networks are primarily copper-based, media converters can extend the reach of the LAN over single-mode fiber up to 130 kilometers with 1550 nm optics.

 Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) technology in the LAN is especially beneficial in situations where fiber is in limited supply or expensive to provision. As well as conventional dual strand fiber converters, with separate receive and transmit ports, there are also single strand fiber converters, which can extend full-duplex data transmission up to 70 kilometers over one optical fiber.

 Other benefits of media conversion include providing a gradual migration path from copper to fiber. Fiber connections can reduce electromagnetic interference.

So what do you think of it after reading?  Maybe you should take notes about it, in fact it contains a lot of knowledge which deserves to be explore.

iPhone + GPS = Google Maps

But Forrester and other research firms are optimistic those numbers will rise rapidly in the near future. Frost & Sullivan, a consulting firm, estimates that the number of subscribers to phone-based navigation systems will grow from about 4.5 million last year to 28 million by the end of 2013.

I’ve been relying on my phone for most of my navigation needs since I got it last year. I’ve been using the Google Maps application preinstalled on the iPhone. Although it doesn’t do turn-by-turn navigation, it will plot a course that you can follow.

The new iPhone programs go well beyond Google Maps to offer true turn-by-turn navigation. There are now at least four different developers with such programs in the iTunes App Store, many of whom offer multiple programs, each with a map of a different area of the country or world. And more such programs are on the way.

The two that I’ve played with are Gokivo and AT&T Navigator. Both programs work adequately. The course maps are generally easy to follow. And on the AT&T Navigator, at least, the voice prompts were generally clear.

One benefit of such programs over many stand-alone GPS devices is that they can tap into your phone’s data connection. The Navigator, for instance, can get real-time traffic information and use that to plot or adjust suggested routes. Both programs allow you to search for nearby restaurants, gas stations and other establishments, and then give you directions.

Gokivo has some nice features that Navigator lacks. You can play music from your iPod library directly from the program. And it will let you pull in addresses from your list of contacts.

But neither program is ideal. Unlike my TomTom, both programs display their maps in portrait, not landscape mode, which means you get a narrow view of your course. And they both tend to refresh their maps slowly. As a result, the on-screen motion can be halting, which means you may be farther down the road than the application thinks you are.

What’s more, the programs cost $10 a month each on top of your normal data fees. There’s an additional $1 charge to download the Gokivo application, though you can download AT&T Navigator for free. That can get pricey over the course of the year, especially since you can buy a low-end GPS device these days for less than $100.

And you’d better make sure you have a car charger when you’re using these applications. Because they keep the screen on constantly and frequently ping the data network to refresh their maps, they can run down your battery very quickly.

Those aren’t minor quibbles. I’m not convinced that I’ll stick with either Gokivo or AT&T Navigator for the long haul. But the programs will get better and, if they don’t, I can try others.

Regardless, I’m probably not going back to my TomTom. If only for the convenience factor, having GPS navigation on my phone is a better experience.

It is reported that AML Communications’ wholly owned subsidiary Mica-Tech, Inc. has filed a letter of intent with U.S. Department of Energy, stipulating that Mica-Tech intends to apply for a matching grant of up to $2 million under the Smart Grid Investment Grant program to develop satellite-based power grid control and monitoring system.

Recently, there is a shocking news that appeared in major media headlines: Korean antitrust authorities slapped unprecedented heavy fines totaling 260 billion won ($208.7 million) on Qualcomm Inc. for violation of local competition laws. It is clear that no matter who won the final, the result will lead a big change to the South Korean’s CDMA market.
